In March of this year the Town of Coffeeville applied for a grant with Homeland Security to help our fire department. Mayor Shelton and myself, John Beshears (Fire Chief), worked closely with Ms. Ivory McCain at North Central Planning to get all the I’s dotted and T’s crossed in hope of receiving the grant. This past week the Town of Coffeeville was notified that we had been awarded the grant for the firehouse. This grant will pay for the installation of a 20KW Briggs generator and auto switch where the station will have electricity during a power outage. At the station our doors are all power operated and very difficult to open without electricity, takes at least two people to get a truck out. A generator solves this problem and insures that our department is still operational during a crisis. Mayor Shelton and myself depended on Ms. McCain as she worked hard helping us get this application in, think it came in just under the wire! The process will take a few months but we will soon have access to power at the fire station no matter what the weather conditions are. Special thanks goes out to Homeland Security for recognizing our need and helping us fill the void.
