Letter To Editor
To: Mayor William Shelton and the Coffeeville Board of Aldermen The residents fo Vaughn Street did not request a name change to “William Shelton Street”. We voted against it and you have gone over town to the court house and the post office and changed our street name to “William Shelton Street” when we voted against it. You wanted your name on our street. We don’t want anyboy’s name on our street. It causes complications for the residents and you know it, but you didn’t care as long as you get your way. It’s foolish to be “reckless and careless”. A reckless person has little regard for wise counsel and doesn’t practice attentiveness or diligent care for others. You gave no consideration to how we would feel. We are asking you to not do this. Wisdom teaches us to ask good questions and consider the implications of our actions; while reckless people charge forward with little regard for other people’s feelings. You have done things in our town that are unforgiveable, mayor. I hope you can live with it. While reckless people charge forward with little regard for relationships or consequenses on often times prudent (people) give thought to their steps. While we’ll sometimes need to act decisively or swiftly we can resist recklessness. You were wrong mayor. You are yelling about the people in the 911 office and the post office are prejudice toward you; that’s how you were able to change our street name. There are 10 residents that live down here and we are all black and we voted against you. While you are acting decisicely or swiftlty, we can resist recklessness you see we recieved and practice God’s wisdom. He’ll give us the guidence we need when we need it.
