Yalobusha Historical Society-Different Day-Same Place and Time
The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet at 2PM on Thursday October 17 th at its headquarters 14656 Depot Street in Coffeeville. Ms. Kay McCulley centers her program on a map created for Gen. U.S. Grant by Union Topographical Engineers under 1 st Lt J. H. Wilson. The map is dated Dec. 21, 1862 and shows several points of interest at the time of Grant’s Mississippi Central Campaign in Lafayette and Yalobusha Counties on each side of the Yocknapatafa (Yocona) River. It shows locations of Union army campsites on the hills west of downtown Water Valley in the days after the Battle of Coffeeville. Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.
