Off The Bench: Sophomore Alandis Smith came into the game in the fourth quarter against the Rebels of Hickory Flat and knocked down four 3’s giving him 12 for the game.
As regular season winds down it is traditional for District play to start in January as it did this past week. The Rebels of Hickory Flat came to town and took home a split decision. Lady Pirates dropped their game in the opener as the growing pains continued. Pirates took the floor at One Pitate Drive shortly after 7 p.m. and this thing was over well before 8:30! First quarter was all Pirates outscoring the Rebels by 20, Pirates up going into the second 28 to 8. Second saw the clock go into “RUN” mode as the Pirates stretched their lead to 46 to 10 at the half. The second half was much the same as the Pirates just did what they wanted and walked away with their first District win of the season. Senior Stanford Spearman, Jr. led all scoring with 24. Sophomore Justin Coffey put up 22 of his own. But, the story in the final quarter came from the bench as Sophomore Alandis Smith knocked down four 3’s giving him 12 for the evening. The depth of the Pirates is outstanding! Saturday afternoon the Pirates traveled to Calhoun City to play the Wildcats, this is always a tough place to play but the Pirates extended their winning streak to five defeating the Wildcats 90 to 81. Pirates head to Blue Mountain Tuesday, January 21, and then back home for Senior Night against Strayhorn Friday night the 24th. Then the Pirates travel to Pott’s Camp finishing out District play on the 28th. District Tournament will be held at Pott’s Camp this year some time next week and we will announce game times as soon as we have that information available. See Y’all at the game!
