Mayor’s Daughter in Clerk’s Office with Flashlight At Night; Not Authorized to Have Access
Coffeeville Police Chief Rolando Fair has confirmed to The Coffeeville Courier that an investigation is underway into actions involving Board of Alderpersons candidate Nakia “Kia” Shelton to determine whether charges of Breaking and Entering and Criminal Tresspassing are warranted. On Wednesday night, January 29, police observed an individual with a flashlight or cell phone light moving around the darkened office of Town Clerk Rosaline Torrance. The individual, identified moments later as Kia Shelton, the daughter of Mayor William Shelton, was later seen making a second unauthorized entry into the secured office and later leaving the office with papers. Police are also investigating the role of Mayor William Shelton and Linwood Baker in the unauthorized entry. Video shows that both men were present while Ms. Shelton was observed on video accessing the locked office of the clerk. The office of the Town Clerk houses information that is from residents which may include social security numbers, bank information for monthly water bill drafts, and other sensitive data. When notified of the unauthorized entry, members of the Board of Alderpersons requested that a Motion to replace the locks on the clerk’s office and police department be placed on the agenda for the February 4th monthly meeting. The Coffeeville Courier will have updates on this developing story in next week’s edition.
