The Oakland Area Lions Club is leading the community’s School Supply Drive to support the area’s young scholars. The drive will conclude on Aug. 8 with Lions Club members creating packets for the students for distribution at the Kids in the Park Back to School event on Sat., Aug. 9. The current drop-off locations for contributing to the drive include the Oakland Public Library, Terry’s Barbershop, Cadence Bank, and the Oakland Town Hall. Basic school supplies, such as pencils, paper, folders, binders, crayons, glue, notebooks, rulers, scissors, and highlighters are needed. Backpacks are also needed. The Oakland Area Chamber of Commerce will again host the Kids in the Park celebrating the return to school. The event is held from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Sat., Aug. 9 at the James Riley Swearengen Walking Track and Park at 61 Walnut Street in Oakland. More information on this event will be coming soon.
