With Coffeeville Schools set to begin the 2025-26 school year on Friday, August 1, Coffeeville Police Department Chief Rolando Fair urged drivers to use caution. “With school buses back on the streets and student pedestrians crossing streets and using sidewalks, I hope everyone will be alert and drive slowly through our neighborhoods,” Chief Fair said. “Sadly, statistics show that more than 100 schoolchildren are killed each year in school zone accidents across the country, with many of these being pedestrian fatalities,” the Chief added. Chief Fair noted that drivers illegally passing stopped school buses is the leading cause of student deaths or injuries when drivers are impatient and drive carelessly. “Everyone needs to be mindful of the hours students are arriving to start the school day and leaving campus once the school day concludes,” Fair concluded. SAFETY FIRST: Coffeeville Police Department will be very active patrolling school zones this year.
