Thursday, August 14th, the Town of Coffeeville was put under a burn ban for 30 days. This was due to the extreme heat we have been experiencing and lack of rain.
I realize that we have had a couple of showers in the last couple of days, hopefully that will continue, but with the extreme heat we have been having the evaporation rate is 4 tenths of an inch a day. A quick shower does very little for our situation.
I too have some burning I would like to do but under these conditions it is just not a good idea.
During the September 8th board meeting the Coffeeville Alderpersons and myself will discuss the situation and decide a course of action going forward.
Remember that fire creates wind, a small fire can become large very quickly and for now it is not worth the risk.
Stay safe,
John Beshears, Chief
Coffeeville Fire Department
