Sherri Upshaw
Friday evening the Pirates hosted their first home game of the year. Been playing for a couple of weeks but on the road.
Lady Pirates started the evening off but were outmatched early on and fell behind early and never got on track down 16 to 34 at the half. Second half was much the same and the Lady Cougars carried a win back to North Panola. There was a bright spot on the evening though, Sophomore Sherri Upshaw scored 25 on the evening, seven of which were 3 pointers! Great game Sherri!
Coming off a great yearthe previous year is hard tofollow, expectations are highand Coach Bush is coachingboth teams this year but itlooks like he can handle it.
The Pirates took the floorbut they left their “game”somewhere else, it did notexist in the first quarter. Itwas ugly going into the second quarter down 5 to 15 tothe Cougars. Second quarterwas some better for the Pirates, cutting the Cougarlead to 8 at the break, 21 to29.The break was not abreak for the Pirates, nolocker room for them as Coach Bush made them stay on the floor and shoot. Second half was what everyone was looking for, the Pirates put up 48 points while holding the Cougars to 27, Pirates win 73 to 58! Leading the Pirate scoring was Junior Justin Coffey with 18 followed by newcomer Sophomore Markeevis Gladney with 15 (all in the second half) and last but certainly not least with double digits was Junior Devarin Scott with 13.
One Pirate Drive is open for business! The Pirates will host Southeast Lauderdale Friday evening at 6 and then Grenada Saturday evening. See Y’all at the game!
