COFFEEVILLE, Miss. — The Tennessee Valley Authority announced on Friday, May 8, that 121 schools across the Tennessee Valley region will reduce their power bills and have healthier air thanks to over $3.3 million in funding for energy and classroom upgrades. This funding is part of TVA’s nationally recognized School Uplift program – which has invested about $13 million to help over 440 schools across seven states reduce their energy bills since 2021. The program has saved participating schools an average of 10% on their energy bills annually through behavioral changes alone, and this year’s participants will save an estimated 5.5 GWh of energy—enough electricity to power 18,000 homes for a month.
This year, $350,000 is being invested into local schools in the Mississippi region. Funding ranged from $10,000 to $210,000 and was awarded based on the score each school achieved by cutting their energy waste and engaging their school community, and a needs-based assessment that determined which facilities could achieve the greatest energy savings.
Coffeeville High School, the recipient of a $210,000 grant, celebrated their award and achievements at an event on May 12, 2026. “Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association is pleased to announce that Coffeeville School District (Yalobusha County), North Delta Schools (Panola County) and Strayhorn High School (Tate County) participated in and completed the School Uplift Program provided through our partnership with Tennessee Valley Authority,” said Earl Gibson, Director of Member Services. “Each of the schools has been awarded $10,000 for this accomplishment.”
“We are also excited that Coffeeville School District has earned an additional $200,000 grant. Coffeeville School’s student energy team, faculty, administration and the community have worked hard this year to learn about energy efficiency, reduce energy costs and improve the school’s learning environment. North Delta School in Panola County also earned recognition from TVA and earned an additional $25,000 grant. In addition to learning about energy efficiency, the student energy teams also gained valuable leadership and mentoring insights.

Additionally, North Delta School in Batesville, MS, and North Elementary School in Brandon, MS, are celebrating their $25,000 Learning Environment Grants.
