In the Americanism Essay Contest sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary for the high school student, Sally Bess Pate won first place.
In simple but beautiful impressive ceremony at the Presbyterian Church Thursday afternoon, Miss Barbara Stidham became the bride of Mr. Robert Haines Schwobel.
Mrs. A. A. Bryant entertained a group of young matrons with four tables of Bridge Wednesday afternoon honoring Sally Stone Trotter who is to move to Clarksdale soon.

Charles Vickery, 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joris Vickery, will represent Coffeeville at Boy’s State in Jackson this week.
Funeral Services for Carter McCracken, 61, were held at the Methodist Church Saturday. He died at his home in Greenwood.
Nancy Black, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noel Black has been chosen as candidate in the “Miss Sylvania” Beauty Contest.

Judy Wilbourn and Mike Vickery were the proud recipients of the Citizenship Awards, which are presented annually by the local American Legion Post to the boy and girl in the eighth grade who are chosen by their classmates and their teachers.
On Friday morning, May 20, Miss June Turner became the bride of Pfc. John Lewis Brassel. The double-ring wedding ceremony was performed by James A. Mahaffy, Church of Christ minister, at his home.
