Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Scarbrough Ayers, 83, of Gore Springs, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 at her residence. She was born December 6, 1941 in Yazoo City to Henry Bardie, Sr. and Ruby Josephine Taylor Scarbrough. Mary attended Mississippi State College for Women and later spent 20 years as an employee of Mississippi Power & Light (now Entergy). Following her retirement from Entergy, she was the manager of the AT&T retail store in Grenada for several years. A two-time breast cancer survivor, Mary enjoyed crafting and yard work and was also a very skilled artist. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 7, 2025 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Bro. Ken Salley officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday at McKibben and Guinn. Survivors include her son, Greg Ayers(Jennifer) of Russellville, AL; sister, Janice Drennan of Leesburg, FL; brother, Bardie Scarbrough of Leesburg, FL; two grandchildren, Nicole Ayers and Tyler Ayers; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Tyler Ayers; sisters, Sharla Jo Collins and Betty Jean Hanks and a nephew, Barry Hanks. Ed Ayers, Justin Ayers, Steven Ayers, Andy Collins, George Collins and Eric Hanks will honor Mary by serving as pallbearers and carry her to rest in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. Brad Ayers, Chester Ayers, Dwight Ayers, John Ayers, Michael Ayers, Matthew Hanks, Chad Kimzey, Kevin Kimzey and Larry Wayne Kimzey will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to the staff of Adoration Hospice for the exceptional care provided to Mary in her last days.
