Family Day at Oakland Public Library Saturday, April 5 If weekday library hours don’t work for you, plan to visit Oakland Public Library for “Family Day” Sat., April 5, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon. All ages are welcome to visit the library and check out books, use computers or other services, play games, color, assemble puzzles, build with LEGOs, and enjoy all the library has to offer. This is a pilot program of Yalobusha County Public Library System from Feb. – May to assess public interest in extended service hours at Oakland. If you would like “Family Day” once a month to continue, come to the library April 5! Volunteers are welcome to read aloud or lead a craft. Reception Honoring Joy Mullen April 6 Yalobusha County Public Library System will host a Reception honoring Joy Mullen on Sunday, April 6, 2:00 – 3:00 PM at Oakland Public Library, 324 Holly Street. Joy retired from service on the Library Administrative Board in October 2024 after more than 40 years of service. Please plan to join the board in recognizing Joy’s many years of faithful service to our libraries! National Library Week April 6 – 10 Celebrate National Library Week with us April 6-12 at Coffeeville and Oakland Public Libraries. This year’s theme is “Drawn to the Library. In addition to special events planned, visit your library and share why you’re “drawn” to the library by creating your own self-portrait or poster. What’s the draw? What brings you to the library? We want to know. Seed & Plant Swap at Coffeeville April 10 Coffeeville Friends of the Library and Yalobusha County Extension are partnering to bring our third annual Seed & Plant Swap on Thursday, April 10, 4:00 – 6:00 PM in the parking lot. Bring your seeds and plants to swap 1 for 1. Master Gardeners from our area will be on site, and Pamela Redwine will present “Cooking with Herbs” inside the library at 4:30 PM. There will be door prizes and crafts for the kids. In the event of rain or bad weather, the event will be held in FBC Family Life Center right behind the library. Be sure to mark your calendar and join us for this free event for the whole family. Peeps Diorama Voting April 14-17 @ Coffeeville Yalobusha County Extension offers a Peeps Diorama Contest for kids ages 5 -18 with prizes awarded in 4 categories. Dioramas must have a book theme and contain more than 1 Peep. Enter by April 14 by calling MSU Extension (662) 675-2730. Peeps Dioramas will be on display for voting at Coffeeville Public Library April 14 – 17. Come see these fun Peeps Dioramas at Coffeeville. Libraries Closed April 18 Coffeeville and Oakland Public Libraries will be closed Friday, April 18. April Event Calendars Every month, we offer paper calendars in both libraries with a full schedule of programs and events for the month. April calendars are now available in the libraries, and they are also published in the Coffeeville Courier.
