July 31, 1936
Mr. A. A. Bryant, Jr., now located at Vicksburg spent a few days in Coffeeville visiting with relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Woodall and Mrs. P. M. Woodall, accompanied by Miss Maggie Mae Turner, left Thursday morning on a vacation trip to Shiloh Park, Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain and to the National Park in the Great Smokey Mountains.
Mrs. S. C. Brower died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. L. Reese, of Pine Valley, Tuesday after an illness of several weeks.
William Peeples with the National Guard on the western coast, has been promoted from the guard duty to the warrent department. Mr. and Mrs. Peeples have moved from Naco, Arizona to El Paso, Texas.

The first open boll of of cotton for 1941 was brought in Thursday morning by Homer Arrington, Jr. The cotton was grown on V. H. Arrington’s place seven miles north of town.
Mr. Cleophus Hudson, a life-long resident of this section was badly burned Monday night of last week when his car he was cranking caught fire and burned him. He died Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Lela Bell of Water Valley died Monday night, July 23, while visiting in the home of her son, William Bell and family.
Aaron Baddley, Jr., and Bill Peeples attended a camp near Oxford last week.
J. E. Kimbrough underwent an appendectomy at the Vardaman Hospital Monday morning.

In a news release from Miss. State College this week, we find among the list of high-rating students the name of Mrs. Kate McLavy.
Mr. H. Gorden left Sunday for Kansas City, Missouri to visit his mother. Mrs. Gorden accompanied him to Memphis.
Pfc. James Earl Summers arrived the 21st to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Summers. He is here for a 10-day leave and will report to Camp Pickett, Louisiana.

Mr. and Mrs. Garland Denley left Memphis on a plane Wednesday evening for Washington, D.C., where their son Charles, is very critically ill in the Walter Reed Hospital.
Mrs. Harry Gorden was in Memphis last weekend to attend the funeral of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Sam Siegal, Friday afternoon.
Little Sam Pace, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Pace had a major operation in the Grenada Hospital Monday morning.

Six Ole Miss students are in the process of painting the American Legion Hut as part of their summer work-study program. Cecil Brower, Legion Commander has secured the paint through public dontations. Paul Pittman is the work supervisor and the workers are Danny Kilgore, Jimmy Denley, Tim Denley, Mike Jones, and Johnny Price.

The Yalobusha County 4-H Horse Club won the Northwest District 4-H Horse Show High Point County Award for the sixth straight year. Members include Kyle Jeffreys, Tommie Hill, John Stevens, Jonathan Byford, Mark Fielder, Robert Buford, Art Fielder, Tonya Bagguley, Jenni Smtih, Joan Farmer, Paul Craig, Bart Robinson, Laurie Craig, Tim Farmer, Cain Foster, Tammy Foster, Ronnie Stark, Stephanie Foster, Carole Rogers, Tanya Bowen, Jackie Craig and Sara Lynn Tartt.
Kathryn Bond as library assistant has been shelving books and running errands at the Coffeeville Public Library the past few weeks.
Mrs. Ouida McCracken moved into her home on Center Street across from the clinic, to join Mrs. Inez Burnham who moved into her newly constructed home several months ago.
Samy W. Chandler entered Nashville Auto Diesel College on June 18.
