Representative R. W. Upchurch left Sunday for Jackson to be at the opening of the Legislature Monday morning.
Mrs. Mary Ellen Hyde who for the past few months has been employed at Mrs. W. A. Spearman’s Beauty Parlor in Water Valley is at the present working here with Miss Lucille Bobbitt.
Mr. Joe Johnston left this week for Tupelo where he will be employed in the insurance business in that city.
Mrs. Lennie Hodges, wife of Sam Hodges, died at her home in Calhoun County Wednesday night of this week.

Mrs. G. C. Shannon, 73, widow of the late J. J. Shannon, of the Airmount section, died Wednesday evening in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Modena Pittman, Clarksdale.
Walter Vickery returned home Sunday from Millington, Tenn., where he had been doing carpenter work in the erection of a power plant there.
Funeral services were held at Oxford Tuesday for Mrs. Eugenia Herron Rowland, 75, wife of Dr. Peter Whitman Rowland, Sr.

Funeral services were held Sunday morning at the Tillatoba Baptist Church for Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Robinson, 86, of west of Tillatoba who died Saturday after a lingering illness.
Allen Pittman has bought a farm from Mrs. Jack Meyer, a portion of the late Jimmie Pittman place. Levarda Purdy has bought the Hezzie Fly farm just across the road. Joe Bailey, Jr., has bought a place across Cypress from R. B. Scobey.

The Thomas Lumber Company, just south of town has been sold by Mr. E. H. Gray and others to Mr. Percy Cunningham of Memphis and the name changed to Coffeeville Lumber Company.
Billy Dean Benoist, Sam Allen Pittman, Carl Arrington, James Jeffreys, John Daniel York, Paul Jones, Bobby Gene Burney, Bobby Pittman, Luke Roberts, Jr., Clyde Johnson, Gale Harbour, Bill Davis and Lloyd Hughes, local boys, have entered into various branches of the Armed Forces during the past few-weeks, and have left for training camps over the States.
People over this section of the country were shocked and saddened January 6 when word went out that Mr. Rich Pittman had died of a sudden heart attack at his home.

A near-tragic accident occured out near Hopewell Church Sunday afternoon, December 26, when a car occupied by J. Oscar Ayers and his son Richard Ayers, collided with one going in the opposite direction occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Brax Schmitz.
Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Gray, Jr., of Enid are announcing the arrival of a son born Monday, January 3, in the Yalobusha Hospital. He was named William Lewis.
County Superintendent of Education Melvin Ford and Mrs. Ford of Water Valley are announcing the birth of their first child, a daughter. She was born Friday, December 30, in the Baptist Hospital, Memphis and was named Marjorie Elizabeth.

Yalobusha County elected officials were given their oath of office at the Coffeeville Courthouse Monday morning. They are Richard Ross, Gary Tippit, Fred Earl Moorman, Jimmy Berry, Dariel Koonce, Dick Wilhoit, John Webster, L. A. Jones, Bobby Clark, Homer Melton, L. D. Jones, Robert Gore and Gerald Harris.
After almost 20 years of service as clerk at the Coffeeville Post Office, Mrs. Katherine Bailey retired as of January 1976.

In the December 17 issue of The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal the editor, Michael Grehl, made the announcement that James H. Denley had been promoted to assistant managing editor of the paper staff.
The Lady Chargers at Yalobusha Academy have won two first place trophies this year. Members of the team are Deanie Denley, Connie Gore, Cathy Coleman, Carla Byford, Debbie Denley, Rubijo Purdy, Tonia Williams, Vonda Varner, Paula Clay and Susan Shaw.
Mr. and Mrs. K. D. Morgan of Coffeeville were the honorees at a reception on December 21, to observe the 50th wedding anniversary of their wedding.

Owen Riddick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Riddick was ordained as a Baptist preacher at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Starkville on December 29, 1985.
Julius Otis, Jr., was the recipient of $25.00 for being the county winner in the Yalobusha County Soil and Water Conservation District’s essay contest.
Hulit Alfred “Parse” Crocker, 54, of Coffeeville, retired truck driver, died Monday morning, January 6, at the Tallahatchie County General Hospital in Charleston.
