Elmer Liles, 26-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Liles of the Clear Springs Community, met a tragic death last Friday morning when he was thrown into the saw at a sawmill near Vann’s Bridge.
C. J. Hamilton moved here as the new railroad section foreman last week to replace Mr. Tomlinson. His wife and young daughter, Fay, came with him.
A good rain, the first in two months and worth thousands of dollars, came last Wednesday.

The Baddley-Bobbitt Beauty Shop announces that along with the billions the nation is spending for defense, price on beauty treatments must increase. New prices, in effect now: Shampoo and Set, 50¢; Finger Wave, 35¢; facial, 75¢; Manicure, 35¢; Permanent, $3.00 and up.
Bailey’s Grocery offers sugar, 10 lbs. for 52¢; ground coffee, 12¢ lb.; lard 4 lb. pail, 45¢.

The Coffeeville Special Consolidated School District will make plans to build a cafeteria and gymnasium with the $20,000 bond issue money which was approved last week by a vote of 267 for and 4 against. Part of the money may be used for a teacher’s home and buying additional land.
A Vocational Farm Program for veterans sponsored by the Federal Government under the G. I. bill has attracted many eligible students including Henry and Raymond Brassel, Columbus W., Franklin R., and Monroe J. Davis, M. H. Harbour, Thomas Holloway, W. E. Jeffreys, Jr., Carl A. Parker, Richard E. Pittman, Creekmore and Littleton Pipkin, James Brower, Frank Summers, James F. Brower, and John P. Bailey.

John Robert Denley, Sr., lost his life in an automobile accident in Winona. While coming from his route, but out of his territory with Liles Produce, he had picked up two hitch-hikers at Hwy. 51 in Oakland. They and John Robet were all killed after midnight, May 26, 1961.

Qualified electors of the Town of Coffeeville will have the privilege fo casting their ballots for a Mayor and five members of the town Board of Aldermen in the election to be held Tuesday, June 2. James D. Arrington and Mrs. Bettye Tritt are candidates for mayor. Joe R. Bourn, Raymond Brown, Johnny Dover, Morton Gorden, Chappell Sides and W. Tyler Wortham, Jr., are candidates for Alderman.
Mr. and Mrs. William Bryant Smith of Vance announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Barbara, to Owen Riddick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Owen Riddick of Coffeeville.
Wedding vows were exchanged by Miss Norma Faye Leigh and Mark Vernon Harley on March 21, 1981.
Mr. William Eugene Spurgeon of Scobey died Friday, May 22, at Memphis Veterans Methodist Center after a long illness.

On Monday night, May 18, Chelsea Welch, Alex Pipkin, Morrow Bailey and York Harris were among the graduates of Nursery School In Grenada.
In Service: Air Force Sgt. John W. Few has arrived for duty with the 28th Air Division, Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma Spec. 4 Timothy Ingram of Coffeeville has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal at Fort Hood, Texas.
Funeral services for Sabie Erline Farmer of Grenada, formerly of Coffeeville, were held Saturday, May 17 at First Baptist Church in Coffeeville.
