Drop-In Dot Day Craft @ CPL Sept. 9 – 16 September 15 is the 15th anniversary of International Dot Day, based on the children’s book The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We’re celebrating Dot Day Sept. 9 – 16 at Coffeeville Public Library with a very imaginative Drop-In Craft Program by Mrs. Kristy. The unique project celebrates the creativity found in every person. Children, youth, and adults are invited to stop by the library any time this week and create your own inspired picture. You can even get the craft to take home! Snapshot Day Sept. 9 On Monday, Sept. 9, Coffeeville and Oakland Public Libraries celebrated Snapshot Day, which documents “A Day in the Life of Mississippi Libraries.” Mississippi Public Libraries observed the day by photographing patrons using the many services provided by our public libraries. Thanks to everyone who visited our libraries on Snapshot Day and let us take a picture! September is Library Card Sign-Up Month Do you have a Yalobusha County Public Library System library card? September is Library Card Sign-Up month, and it’s the perfect time to get a library card. They’re free to residents of Yalobusha County. Visit our libraries in Coffeeville or Oakland during September to get your library card. Library Board Meets Sept. 20 The Administrative Board of the Yalobusha County Public Library System will meet Friday, Sept. 20, at 9:00 AM at Coffeeville Public Library. Library board meetings are open to the public in compliance with state law. Anyone wishing to be on the agenda should contact Patty M. Bailey, Director, by Monday, Sept. 16, at (662) 675-8822 or [email protected] September Grab & Go Bags Yalobusha County Public Library System provides free monthly Grab & Go Bags for elementary age children filled with activities. Bags also include a craft and a treat. September bags will be available by Sept. 3 for pick up. Children parents, grandparents, and care givers are welcome to stop by either library to pick up a free September Grab & Go Bag. Fall Book Club @ Coffeeville Oct. 17 Coffeeville Public Library is hosting Fall Book Club. The group will meet Thursday, Oct. 17 at 5:30 PM for a potluck meal and book discussion. If you’re interested in joining us for a fun and lively book discussion, please call the library at (662) 675-8822 to get your name on the list. We have room for a few more. The book selected is The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan, a charming, clever, and quietly moving novel of the endless possibilities and joyful discoveries about the promises we make and break, the objects that hold meaning for our lives, and the surprising connections that bind us. Smokey Bear Reading Challenge Ends Nov 28 Smokey Bear is 80 years old in 2024! Help Smokey celebrate his 80th birthday by learning how to prevent wildfires and help the environment. Read 3 books and earn 4 badges to complete the challenge and earn your prize. Start by taking Smokey’s Pledge. Badges are earned by completing at least one activity in each section. Get a stamp for each badge you complete. Free Smokey Bear Reading Challenge sheets are available in our libraries. The Challenge is geared for ages 4-10, but all ages are welcome. The Smokey Bear Reading runs until Nov. 28, so there’s still plenty of time to complete the challenge.
