People of our town were shocked Tuesday when news came from the Grenada Hospital that Mrs. Roland Murphree had died about 4:30.
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Taylor of Coffeeville announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Alice, to John West Sherman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otey Sherman of Charleston.
Having completed a course of instruction at Camp Shelby, Francis Franklin was this week appointed Highway Patrolman and reported to Jackson Wednesday to begin work.
Hon. Theo Bilbo, present U. S. Senator, was reelected over his four opponents in the Primary Election July 2.
Jack Speir and Fred Williams returned home this week after finishing an extended course in Refrigeration in Birmingham, Alabama.

Irving Shaw, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. I. V. Shaw, Sr., went to Jackson last weekend where he is participating in the activities of “Boy’s State”.
Members of the champion 4-H meat judging team from Yalobusha County, chosen during the annual State 4-H Club Congress, are Fella Armstrong, John Kimbrough, Harold Purdy, all of Coffeeville and Tommy Vick of Water Valley. Their coach is E. L. Sessums, Assistant County Agent.
J. B. Massey of Oakland won the Star State Farmer Award. This was announced by his vocational teacher, James Criss.
Miss Martha Ann Fancher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Fancher, will be married to Lieut. Charles A. Ellard, son of Rev. and Mrs. C. H. Ellard of Pittsboro July 8 at the Coffeeville Baptist Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Harbour of Inverness are the proud parents of a baby girl born Tuesday morning, July 3, in the Water Valley Hospital.
Lou McCormack is among the campers at Camp Wrenwoode near Amory this week. Nancy Stone is also there serving on the staff of counselors.
Mrs. Clarence Cook died at her home south of Oakland Thursday afternoon after several months illness.

The Coffeeville Public Library has created considerable interest each summer in their reading club for youngsters who read books during the vacation to earn a reading certificate. Members of the club are Suzanne Ayers, Jeanne Shaw, Mary Helen Criss, Bronwyn Benoist, Linda Carol Blackwelder, Robert Criss and Bill Criss.
James H. (Jimmy) Denley of Coffeeville and Cheryl Rose French of Water Valley are among the University of Mississippi students on the honor roll for the second semester of the 1965-66 session.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Morris of Bruce announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Joyce Lahon Morris, to James Leon “Bill” Hughes.

Dwight H. Vick, a 1981 graduate of Coffeeville High School and valedictorian of his class, was recently selected as Good Citizen by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
During the week of June 1-6 Derrick Jenkins was in Washington, D. C. participating in the National Spelling Bee sponsored by the Scripps Howard Newspapers.
Mrs. Clara Denley Chamberlain, an English teacher at Grenada Junior High School, was honored as Teacher of the Year in the Grenada Municipal Separate School District. She was presented an engraved tray and a $100.00 savings bond by Dr. Gorden Walker, Superintendent of Schools.
Eva Caldwell Sides became the bride of Mickey Lee Richardson in a morning wedding Friday, May 15. Rev. E. E. Stidham officiated at the ceremony in the home of Chappell and Jimmie Sides.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Elam Baptist Church for Gerry Griffin Jones, age 26, who died of injuries received in a one car accident Saturday night, June 13.
Jamie Tyler Holloway, age 23, drowned Saturday, June 13, while swimming with friends in a river near his home in Demopolis, Alabama.

The Charles Bond Family moved into the Methodist pastorium last week. Members of the Coffeeville United Methodist Church had an ice cream supper Friday evening welcoming the new pastor and his family, Rev. and Mrs. Charles (Sarah) Bond, Stephen, 10, Andrew, 17, Kathryn, 15, and Marla, a college sophomore.
Rev. Owen Riddick has accepted the call to service as the pastor of the Lake Washington First Baptist Church of Glen Allen.
Pamela Denise Morgan, Miss Grenada County, will enter the 29th annual Miss Mississippi Pageant to be held in Vicksburg July 18 through July 19.
Rev. and Mrs. Edward Eugene Woodall, Jr., of Corinth are the parents of a son born Friday, May 23. He has been named Edward Eugene Woodall, III.
